Roll out the red carpet for Detroit’s new rock royalty. And bring a wedding gift.
Meg White is set to marry Jackson Smith, son of rock icons Patti Smith and Fred (Sonic) Smith, the Free Press has learned.
The rock 'n' roll power couple will tie the knot at a May 22 ceremony in Nashville, sources said.
He’s a guitarist who has played with Detroit bands like Back in Spades.
She’s the drummer for the White Stripes, the internationally renowned band she
formed a decade ago with ex-husband Jack White.

White and Smith, who became close last summer, are known around town as
private but personable figures. They live together in White's Detroit home, and
got engaged several weeks ago.
Privacy was a consideration when opting for a
wedding in Nashville, a music-industry town accustomed to celebrity comings and
goings.
“They don’t want it to be a circus,” said a source acquainted with
the couple. “They want it to be about the two of them.”

The couple is planning to hold a reception in Detroit soon after the
wedding weekend.

up for an album and tour with his new band, the Dead Weather. He now lives in
Nashville, and is expected to attend the wedding.
